Culm River at Culmstock
We visited on Tuesday 9th August with friends who love river swimming. It is a stunning location beside a beautiful bridge and river and a cracking pub. Only 10-15 minutes drive from Halsbeer Farm and Blackdown Yurts.
Felix says “the river was so fun to play in because it was shallow in one part and deep in another part. We made a really cool dam. It was hard to make because the water found a way through our dam.”
Mia said “the river made a new stream because of our dam. On the other side of the bridge is a deeper river – we caught loads of fish (and let them go again).”
There is plenty of space to picnic next to the river but we chose to splash out (excuse the pun) and eat at The Culm Valley Inn across the road which has picnic tables near the river as well as quirky decor indoors. For some reason Dodos feature prominently and there is a totem pole by the road! Food has always been fantastic whether at lunchtime or in the evening. We particularly loved the brie and onion marmalade ciabatta at lunchtime and enjoyed rabbit scotch eggs, whole crab and gorgeous steak on a previous visit in the evening.
