We think our cottages here on the edge of the Blackdown Hills are a brilliant place to bring the whole family. With the great outdoors on your doorstep you probably won't want to roam far from the farm but if you do want to check out the region's varied family attractions, here are some of our recommendations:
Crealy Adventure Theme Park Devon
One of Devon's premier tourist attractions, Crealy Adventure Theme Park has 75,000 ft of indoor play areas with rides, animals and much much more. Have fun pretending to be a Formula One racing driver on the Techno Race Karts, spin through the air on the El Pastil Loco Coaster, slap on your eye-patch for a go on the Queen Bess pirate ship, or step back in time for a whirl on the pretty Victorian Carousel. There is also an Animal Realm where kids can ride, feed, milk, groom and cuddle the friendliest animals in Devon.

Go Ape at Haldon Forest
This has to be one of Devon’s best days out where you can enjoy two incredible 235m zip slides flying you from hilltop to hilltop. High up in the Trees in Haldon Forest you'll get incredible views across Dartmoor National Park before experiencing the thrill of zip slides. Just 15 minutes from Exeter.
This beautiful Norman estate is a place of great natural beauty that is refreshingly uncommercial and offers visitors a great family day out. Get lost in the world-class Beech Hedge maze, explore the woodlands and discover hidden playgrounds. Test your nerve on the Forest Dropslide and meet the cheeky family of otters, wild boar and red squirrels. Known as the natural place for very good reason (you will meet peacocks and guinea fowl roaming free), Escot provides sanctuary to endangered species including beavers, water voles, dormice and of course red squirrels. The education department has an excellent reputation and runs courses and activity days to inspire children to discover the natural world – and to get very muddy!
Play Dome Honiton

World of Country Life
The World of Country Life offers a wonderful day out for the whole family with pets to see, touch, feed and even buy! See the new arrivals in the Hatchery, play on the Giant Slides, get stuck in to a game of crazy golf or just jump on the deer train for a ride out to the fields to hand feed the deer! There is also an amazing collection of vintage vehicles, motorcycles and steam engines - The largest in the South West!
The Donkey Sanctuary
The Donkey Sanctuary is open to the public 365 days a year from 9.00 am to dusk with free admission and parking and is a British charitable organisation devoted to the welfare of donkeys. There are no commercial attractions - just gently rolling countryside with walks around the fields where you can meet the donkeys, who adore the fuss and attention received from visitors.
Visitors are free to spend as much time as they wish meeting the donkeys in the Main Yard where they wander at will. They need plenty of extra attention so please do stop by and spend some time with them as they adore fuss and attention in their old age.
With more animals than anyone else in the South West you're in for a really wild time. See them all - giraffes, lions, gorillas, cheetahs and thrilling crocodiles, plus our cheeky meerkats, colourful snakes and amazing monkeys. There are also indoor play areas, the Jungle Express train and uniquely, six habitats that mimic the animals' natural environment. Come in and get close to over two thousand creatures. But you'd better leave a whole day - you'll need it.
