Sheldon Riding Centre – our closest place to borrow a pony
Top of Mia’s summer holiday “to do” list was to go horse-riding so I contacted Liz at the nearby Sheldon Riding Centre to see if she could make that happen. Sheldon is a village up on top of the Blackdowns, a short hop and a skip (OK a 10ish minute drive) from Halsbeer through pretty lanes.
We arrived to find the farrier giving one of the horses a pedicure and new shoes, which the children watched with fascination. The stables were clean and well kept and Liz soon arrived back from leading out another customer and got the ponies ready for Mia, Felix and their cousins Minnie and Jasper. We decided to go for a half hour hack as all the children were newbies but you can go for longer should you wish and Liz has ponies to suit all ages.
Liz and her assistant led them off down the lane to explore the beauty of the Blackdown Hills on horseback. The children absolutely loved their riding experience, returning beaming with smiles and excited that they had trotted. I think next time we may have to go for an hour!
