Accessibiility
Our three largest cottages are suitable for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility as they each have a ground floor bedroom with ensuite shower wet-room. To check their suitability for you we have provided a summary of facilities below. All ground floors are flagstone floors with occasional rugs (particularly in living rooms and beside beds - these can be moved if required. Similarly beds can be moved to one side of the room if more space is needed along one edge).

Hay barn
Hay Barn has unobstructed level paved access from the car park onto its patio and to the front door of the property. There is a 4cm step over the front door threshold. The doorways are a minimum width of 750mm throughout the ground floor. There are no thresholds between rooms on the ground floor. The ground floor bedroom has a kingsize bed and an ensuite shower wet-room (newly refurbished in 2021). A grab rail is situated next to the toilet and a fold down shower stool is provided. A wheelable shower chair is available to borrow on request (subject to availability).
swallow barn
Swallow Barn has unobstructed level paved access from the car park onto its patio and to the front door of the property. There are no thresholds on the ground floor and all doorways are a minimum of 750mm throughout the ground floor. The ground floor bedroom has a kingsize bed and an ensuite shower wet-room (newly refurbished in 2022). Two grab rails are provided next to the toilet. A wheelable shower chair is available to borrow on request (subject to availability, see photo above). Additionally there is ramp access from Swallow's patio to the conservatory deck.
CIDER cottage
Cider Cottage is accessed via a paved path which has a very slight decline then incline from the car park to the front patio and from there threshold free access via the front door. To access the rear outside space there is a 7cm up and over threshold through the double patio doors onto the lower patio. The garden table is usually situated on the upper patio to which there are three steps up. It can be moved to the lower patio if required. There is a 2cm wooden threshold from the living room/kitchen into the dining room, which is carpeted. The ground floor bedroom has a double bed and an ensuite shower wet-room. A wheelable shower chair is available to borrow on request (subject to availability, see photo above in section on Hay Barn).
apple cottage
Apple Cottage is not suitable for wheelchair users as there is no ground floor bedroom or bathroom. There is a step up from the entrance hall into the living area. The wooden stairs are fairly steep and have a turn on them, however there is a handrail. Both bedrooms share an upstairs bathroom. There is no ground floor WC.
swimming pool
There is both ramp and stair access to the swimming pool building. There are three steps down into the pool which is heated to 29 degrees C. When the pool was re-lined in 2022 non-slip surface was applied to the steps. Sorry, we do not have a hoist available.
CONSERVATORY
The conservatory is accessed via a paved path through the cottage courtyard and threshold free access into the building and from there out onto the deck via two sets of French doors. There is also a ramp from the deck to Swallow's private patio. The other end of the deck has a step down/up close to the door into the conservatory, but this is not a problem for wheelchair users who would just go through the conservatory to access the deck rather than round the side.
ACCESSIBILITY out and about
Exmouth has a beach wheelchair hire scheme run by the town council which means you can get everyone down on the sand and even in the sea.
Countryside Mobility provides trampers for hire in beautiful locations around the Southwest.
For more information about both of these schemes see our blog here where you will find links.
Regular guests whose daughter uses a mobility scooter enjoy shopping in Taunton.
