There are so many things to do locally and further afield it is impossible to create a comprehensive list but we will keep adding to this as people suggest places and we visit ourselves. Do feel free to recommend places for inclusion if you find somewhere really good fun.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page during your stay too as we often post about special events at attractions on there. We recommend that you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Theme parks
Diggerland - one of our nearest attractions at Willand, great for pre-schoolers, primary schoolers and big kids (dads that's you!) who love JCBs. It's not the cheapest but that means it also doesn't tend to have really long queues. Sometimes discount codes are available.
Crealy - Devon's largest theme park with plenty of rides. A great fun day out, but can get quite busy and hot as there is little shade.
Woodlands - Near Dartmouth, this theme park does what it says on the tin, it is situated in the most lovely wooded valley so great if it is super hot. Great for primary aged children. Water slides, toboggan slides, adventure playgrounds, big indoor soft play if the weather is poor. Bird of prey centre with displays.
Wildlife
Wildwood Escot- Located near Feniton, Wildwood is a great place to visit to see native British wildlife, both that lives here currently, like red squirrels, and that used to live here in the past such as wolves. Play areas including a great drop slide and climbing wall are scattered among the trees along with a reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon village.
Paignton Zoo - If you would like to see wildlife from further afield, look no further than Paignton Zoo. It's a great day out.
Yarak Birds of Prey experiences - you can't just rock up to see the birds here - you have to be booked onto one of their flying experiences, but it is well worth it. About fifteen minutes away in Clyst Hydon with beautiful views back to Blackborough and the Blackdown Hills. We did a half day experience and it was utterly amazing. Find out more on our blog here.
Wet weather ideas
Clip n Climb in Exeter has great indoor climbing walls.
Flip Out in Wellington is our nearest trampoline park.
Haldon Forest Park - fantastic if you have bikes with you as the off-road cycle trails here are excellent. You can explore on foot also or in the trees with Go Ape.
Devon Country Pursuits run activities at a few different locations including at Escot where Wildwood is located. Have a go at Segway, quad biking, archery, or foot golf. Paintball and laser tag takes place at their other location the other side of Exeter (quite near Haldon actually).
for all the family
Sometimes it's hard to find days out that appeal to all ages. We think these do as they have something of interest for everyone:
Quince Honey Farm - near South Molton tells the story of bees and how honey is made. Not only that but there is a restaurant, gardens and soft play too.
World of Country Life - near Sandy Bay, Exmouth - with plenty of play areas, animals including bird of prey displays, and plenty of exhibition space undercover with vehicles, farm implements and so much more.
The Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth - who doesn't love a donkey. Visit for free and see the rescue donkeys. Large cafe which also does Sunday lunches.
