2023 PAINTING COURSES

We have two painting courses running in 2023, an en plein air oil painting weekend with local Cullompton artist Julie Dunster and a watercolour midweek with Sidmouth-based artist Lynda Kettle.

En plein air oil painting with Julie Dunster
Friday 7th to Sunday 9th July 2023

Optional Friday evening painting demonstration and tapas supper on Friday 7th July 2023.
Tuition will run from roughly 10am til 3.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday with breaks for refreshments and lunch (provided). This year we plan to spend Sunday on the south Devon coast painting seascapes with picnic lunch on the beach. Plans will be somewhat flexible depending on the weather. We have the option of a spacious, light conservatory in case of rain, painting either from photographs taken outdoors or from still life. This course is suitable for people with some experience in using oils, either traditional or water-mixable.

Accommodation is available in a private ensuite room in one of our self-catering cottages from 4.30pm on Friday for three nights until 10am on Monday. You may need to share a cottage with one or two other course participants but will have your own room unless you wish to share a twin or double with a friend or partner).

Paul who attended Lynda's course in 2022 kindly wrote afterwards to say:

"I really enjoyed the watercolour art course with Lynda,
I learned more in those 3 days than I've done in the last 20 years!"

A selection of Julie's paintings below. At left, the driveway here at Halsbeer after rainfall. Centre, Julie painting, my guess would be Beer beach. At right, a view from Broadway Tower that won the Great Broadway Paint Off. Julie has exhibited at the Mall Galleries in London with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, also at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Society of Women Artists and South West Academy.
